Tips from  "KANTAR ON BRIDGE"

Deduct one point for any singleton jack, queen or king, as well as OJ doubleton.  If you still have 12 points including distribution, open; otherwise, pass

The following was written by Matthew Granovetter.

DO

An A-K combination is your first choice of leads.

Support Partner with three+ trumps whenever you conceivably can.

Open the bidding in your longest suit.

Double them for penalities when you have a nice trump stack, not just points.

Defend hands carefully while watching partner’s signals.

When declaring, study the hand before you call a card from dummy.

 Concentrate.

 DON’TS

Don’t lead an ace without the king.

Don’t pass partner’s preempt, then later back into the auction

Don’t overcall two of a minor with only a five-card suit.

 Don’t pull partner’s penalty double.

Don’t break suits for declarer when he has to do it himself.

Don’t call a card from dummy until you have formulated a plan of play.

Don’t criticize partner until the end of the game.  Then shoot him/her (just kidding).
